Tourmaline Field

Facilities

Tourmaline Field has been designed to replicate Seaman Stadium in terms of:

  • wood fencing;
  • cement dugouts;
  • an outdoor training center complete with batting cages and pitching mounds;
  • the Peters & Co. Press Box;
  • Musco Stadium field lights for night play;
  • J Dawgs’ Academy Changerooms and concession area; and
  • a Fairplay Scoreboard.

Tourmaline Field will feature an all "Field Turf" Infield with a natural grass outfield. The "Field Turf" infield will enable J Dawgs' players to play outdoors as soon as the snow melts. This will significantly increase the "usability" of Tourmaline Field and offer a significant advantage for J Dawgs players.

Along with Tourmaline Field, the Dawgs will add a second bantam diamond which, along with Riverside Park , will enable the Dawgs to host bantam events at the provincial and national levels.

History

With Seaman Stadium and the Duvernay Field House, the Dawgs are fortunate to have the premier baseball development facilities in the country. In the summer of 2011, the Dawgs plans include the addition of Tourmaline Field, a full sized midget level diamond, to these already extraordinary facilities.

The Dawgs Baseball Program now consists of a summer collegiate club, 2 high performance midget clubs (18 years and under) and 2 high performance Bantam clubs (15 years and under). With Dawgs’ teams now playing baseball outdoors from the day the snow melts until November, there was a need for an additional diamonds.

Tourmaline Field was be made possible by a funding partnership among principal donor Michael Rose, CEO of Tourmaline Oil Corp., the Town of Okotoks and Dawgs’ management. In addition, the Dawgs were fortunate to have the generous support of Peters & Co. Ltd. who sponsored the new Fairplay Scoreboard at Tourmaline Field as well as the "Peters and Co. Press Box." Architects’ renderings for the field contemplate a full sized midget diamond suitable for international and provincial tournaments with dimensions of 300 feet down the lines and 380 feet to center field. Grandstand seating is planned for 300 fans with additional berm seating available down the left field line.
